Research statement
I study the relationship between political violence and democratic inclusion — asking how violence shapes who participates in politics, under what conditions, and with what consequences for democratic representation. A core finding is that political violence produces systematic inequalities along lines of gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status. My work draws on original survey data, ethnographic fieldwork, elite interviews, and statistical analysis, with a primary focus on Colombia and Nigeria.

Gender & political violence

How electoral violence shapes candidates' ambition and survival in Colombia.

Gender & conflict resolution

Gender provisions in peace agreements and their implementation. Philippines case study.

Violence & political parties

How parties mediate between violence and participation — as enablers or protectors.

Intersectionality

How gender, ethnicity, and class intersect in shaping vulnerability to political violence.
